First, who am I to be talking about emotions?
I have been practicing as a counsellor with my own personal mix of holistic therapy for the past 6 years. I am trained in the specialized area of counselling psychology.
I didn’t take the common route of getting a social work degree, although I enrolled and attended some classes, I quickly knew this wasn’t the path for me. Why? Because it wasn’t going to train me in the specialized field of counselling, and only covered a very minimal amount of psychology and counselling – which was what I really wanted to specifically learn about.
I spent a full year in deep intensive study and application in the field of counselling psychology. It was intense! But so worth it.
Of all of the methods of counselling, the one that I really felt the most drawn to was Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT). So it became a big part of how I practiced from day one.
Through all of the years and clients I have worked with, I believe my emotionally focused, holistic style of practicing is why my clients have such profound results in a short period of time.
Why those that have been to countless other therapists have experienced minimal results month after month, in comparison to 30 days working with me. Most experience deep breakthroughs within their first session.
Here’s what I truly believe:
If we ignore, suppress, avoid, and numb our emotions, and think they are just an annoying problem we need to ‘get rid of’ we are doing ourselves a great disservice.
As Brene Brown says, when you numb the dark, you also numb the light.
If you numb the pain, you also numb the pleasure, joy, and rapture.
Unhealed, unprocessed and suppressed emotions create disease in the body and mind, and contribute largely to:
- Depression and apathy
- Stress related health issues
- Emotional Eating
- Relationship chaos
- Adrenal Fatigue
- Hormone issues
- Chronic health issues that don’t respond to treatment
- Money Issues
- Failure to grow in business
Emotional – spiritual health is ESSENTIAL for healing any imbalances of the hormonal system, including adrenal fatigue.
It’s also essential if you want to have healthy, thriving relationships, especially marriage and long term relationship.
It is also essential for making changes in your financial health, since there is often an emotional charge around moola that we carry around with us like a heavy sack of hammers.
And, if you are a business owner or entrepreneur, deep emotional support is often a missing piece of the equation.
In order to up-level and expand into new territory, and continue to do the scary things necessary to evolve yourself and your business, emotions play a critical role in this, and most business coaches don’t go into this. At least, not ones who are trained in this field with qualifications they paid a small fortune to obtain in order to work with people on this deep level.
I blend practical tools, strategy, health, life and business coaching with emotional soulwork into my coaching because I believe to truly change and thrive, we need a little of everything, with a strong and stable emotional root system as the foundation.
Emotion is life.
